Belmont Star

I have always loved animals...as a child I was consumed with my love for ponies. At a very early age, in 1964, I was lucky enough to share with my sister a 12.2hh gelding named Belmont Star who came to us for the princely sum of £30 - with tack from a grateful patient of my fathers. I fondly remember my sister and I getting him ready for shows, tied up to the swing in the back garden.

Pennwood PicadorMy weekends were always spent riding and looking after the pony, and as the years went by my father decided to buy my sister and I one each. This was the start of a wonderful bond and friendship I had with my 14.2hh Irish pony Pennwood Picador. Many years were spent going to Pony Club rallies, shows and cross country trials. We were a member of the Albrighton Pony Club mounted games team, and I remember competing at the Three Counties Show with them, before we all went off to Pony Club camp...happy days.

Sadly in my late teens we decided to let him go, and although I rode and looked after my sisters horse whilst she was at University, somehow it wasn't the same as having Picador around, and so my interest in riding seemed to dwindle as other interests took over. Somehow I always managed to keep track of where Picador was being kept, and would often go past the field he was in, remembering all the fun times we had together.

EmmaWe always had a menagerie of animals, but always amongst them was the pet dog. I can never remember a time without one. So when I got married and had children it was a natural step to have my own.

Emma was my beautiful Labrador and a constant companion for 15 years...she was a gentle spirit and always by my side, making it almost unbearable to say goodbye to her when she died. I could not imagine life without dogs and it was not long before I bought my first Cocker Spaniel, a start of another journey...
